40yrs of Age: A Man’s Season of Revelation and Realignment.

There’s something undeniably sacred about the number forty—something deeper than symbolism, something ancient that echoes through time. For centuries, it has marked a turning point in the human story—a sacred threshold, a spiritual incubation, a passage of transformation. And it’s not a coincidence. It never has been.

In almost every spiritual tradition, the number forty shows up as a divine rhythm—an interval of testing, surrender, and eventual emergence. It’s the number that prepares the soul for what’s next.
Moses spent forty days and nights on Mount Sinai, surrounded by cloud and fire, receiving sacred revelation face-to-face with the Divine.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was forty years old when the first verses of revelation descended upon him in the cave of Hira—forever shifting the course of humanity’s consciousness.
Jesus, peace be upon him, withdrew into the wilderness and fasted for forty days, entering his mission with clarity and divine power.
The people of Nineveh were given forty days to turn back to their Creator.
The flood that reset the Earth in the time of Noah (Nuh, peace be upon him) lasted forty days and nights. Even in Eastern traditions, seekers often retreat for forty days in silence, fasting, and meditation—releasing attachment and discovering truth.
It’s as though the number forty is stitched into the fabric of transformation. And now, here I am—standing at that very threshold. Not as a distant observer of sacred stories, but as a man immersed in his own.
Turning forty hasn’t simply felt like a birthday milestone. It has felt like a season. A deeply spiritual reckoning. A call back to myself. A personal wilderness. A time where old identities begin to fall away—not in bitterness, but in reverence. A time where questions that I once pushed aside now rise with clarity and insistence.
For many years leading up to this moment, I felt an inner restlessness—an agitation that couldn’t be soothed by logic or reason. It started as a quiet discomfort with my day-to-day life: deadlines, spreadsheets, performance reviews, endless meetings. The familiar rhythms of the professional world began to feel foreign, almost as if I was living someone else’s life. Slowly but surely, that discomfort grew into something deeper—a spiritual dissonance. I began to feel as though I was living outside of myself, as though my soul had signed up for a life I wasn’t fully inhabiting.
There were moments—countless ones—where I found myself questioning the model I had subscribed to for so long. How had we arrived at the belief that our value lies in how well we perform inside institutions built by others? That our time and creativity should be traded endlessly for salaries and job titles and incremental promotions?
I remember journaling before fajr in the early mornings before work, asking myself: “Is this what I was created for?” “Is this the way I’m meant to live the second half of my life?” “Can I be of service to the world, to my family, to the Creator—without betraying myself, my idealway of living in the process?”
These weren’t just existential questions. They were spiritual invitations—gentle whispers from the Divine nudging me to wake up, to pay attention, to step into the unknown.
Then came the unraveling. In 2024, during a period of professional conflict and personal tension, the slow burn of discontent reached its peak. My resignation, the disciplinary processes, the systems I had outgrown—it all collided at once. But in hindsight, none of it was a breakdown. It was a breakthrough. Not a collapse—but a clearing.
And in that clearing, something ancient awakened inside me: the knowing that sustenance does not come from a payslip. Provision does not come from employment contracts or budget approvals. These things may offer structure, but they do not guarantee peace. They do not nourish the soul.
Sustenance comes from true alignment and absolute certainty with your Creator.
From being in alignment with the Source, the Creator, the One who has written your sustenance long before you were born. And so began my realignment—not in theory, but in practice.
I stopped outsourcing my safety to systems that could never hold the fullness of who I am. I turned inward, upward, and back toward what was real. My rituals changed. My rhythm changed. I began to meet myself in the mountains, in the ocean, in the stillness of sunrise hikes and the cold clarity of Dalebrook tidal dips. I began to find the courage to not just ask the hard questions—but to live into them.
But there’s another layer to this awakening I must share.
You see, as teenagers—especially those of us wired for high performance—we once had bold hearts. We were dreamers with spreadsheets, idealists with a game plan. In high school and university, we mapped out careers with military precision. We pursued the question, “What will bring joy, success, meaning, freedom?”—with fire in our eyes and wind in our sails.
We were brave young sailors, ready to take on the vast ocean of life with steady hands and unshakable purpose.
So here’s the honest question: now that we’ve reached forty, why aren’t we still chasing life with that same fire?
Why have we traded the curiosity of youth for the comfort of predictability? Why have we replaced wild purpose with mild stability?
We tell ourselves it’s for the mortgage. For the kids. For safety. But deep down, we know: comfort, predictability, and security are not guarantees—they are illusions.
They can be taken from you in an instant. Just like discomfort, instability, or spontaneity. Both are temporary. Both are uncertain.
But one leaves you filled with meaning. The other leaves you asking what if?
So if you’re still choosing comfort at the expense of your calling… maybe this isn’t for you. But if your soul is whispering for something more—then perhaps, this is exactly where you need to be.
Because I believe the essence of being human is to be of benefit to others. To give—freely, unconditionally, with love and meaning. To serve in a way that feels sacred to you, even if the outcome is uncertain. Even if the world doesn’t clap.
This is the highest form of fulfillment. To become the best version of yourself—not for ego, but in service to others. And in doing so, discover that the path to deep contentment is paved with courage, contribution, and alignment—not just comfort.
This is why I say again: the midlife “crisis” is not a breakdown. It is a revelation. A sacred invitation. A chance to realign before it’s too late.
And through that revelation, I began to build again—from the inside out. A way of living that values my time. A way of working that honors my truth. A business that does not steal my soul, but anchors it.
This is what I now call the Free-Range Human Life.
It’s not about abandoning responsibility. It’s about redefining it. It’s not about recklessness. It’s about reverence. Because the truth is: you were never created to fit in a box. You were created to reflect something eternal. To live aligned. To live awake. To live free.
If you’ve been feeling this pull—if the questions have started knocking at your door, if the system you’re in no longer fits who you are becoming—I want you to know this:
You’re not broken. You’re not lost. You’re being called. And there is another way.
